Arenac Released Mugshot Records
A booking photograph records appearance at intake. It can help distinguish people with similar names, but it does not state the charge outcome, prove guilt, show whether bond was posted, or establish present custody. A person can leave Arenac County Jail while the image remains part of the booking record. Later court action may dismiss the case, change the disposition, or restrict public access.
Michigan’s Freedom of Information Act, MCL 15.231 et seq., is the access framework for an existing Sheriff record. A county-jail release and an MDOC discharge also have different public windows. OTIS generally keeps a discharged person visible for three years after MDOC supervision ends, subject to set-aside or other law. That period does not set the Arenac Sheriff’s retention schedule. Search results that mimic county branding are not proof of Sheriff ownership. Avoid giving an unofficial roster the standing of a county record. Request an Arenac Booking Photo

Present custody requires a separate check. Someone absent from the Arenac jail may have been released, transferred to MDOC, moved to another county, or handed to a federal or immigration custodian. Arenac Set-Aside Photo Effects
Michigan set-aside law can make conviction-related information nonpublic. Under MCL 780.621d, an application waiting period may run from the last relevant event, including completion of imprisonment, probation, or parole discharge. The day a person left Arenac County Jail may be only one point in that timeline.
The broad application groupings described in the research are seven years for more than one felony, five years for one felony, a serious misdemeanor, or an eligible first-offense OWI, and three years for other eligible misdemeanors. A qualifying order can alter public access to court, law-enforcement, and OTIS material. A cached third-party image may not vanish at the same time, and it does not override the official set-aside. Arenac and MDOC Photo Differences
An Arenac intake image is tied to a local booking. An OTIS photo is tied to an MDOC offender record. OTIS covers current prisoners, parolees, probationers under MDOC supervision, and people discharged within the prior three years. It excludes county-jail-only prisoners, city lockups, people not sentenced to MDOC, and records outside its public scope.
Some OTIS records lack a photo because of age, collection history, or lawful access limits. When one appears, compare the MDOC number, legal name, aliases, descriptors, sentence data, and status. A state image does not become the missing local booking photo merely because the person was once arrested in Arenac County.
For an older MDOC record outside OTIS, a requester can seek specific public release or discharge records. MDOC’s FAQ mentions offender photos in a broader PENPACK, but the full packet route is limited to recognized criminal-justice authorities for official business. Public users should request a particular nonexempt item and expect lawful redaction or denial where needed.
OTIS public display lasts for three years after discharge from MDOC supervision. That date may be years later than the prison release because parole can continue in the community. If a qualifying conviction is set aside, MDOC says the related public record and image can be removed as law requires. A missing photo can also reflect the age of the record or the absence of electronic photography, so it does not prove that no MDOC term existed.
When a displayed OTIS photo or sentence fact appears wrong, route the issue by source. Most conviction and judgment facts originate with the sentencing court. A court-derived error may need a corrected order. A supervision designation belongs with the current or last supervising office. General stale-display issues can go to MDOC public information, but the agency may need direction from the source office before changing the data.
The same source rule applies to Arenac material. The Sheriff controls the booking image and custody record. The court controls its filed orders and register. MDOC controls its offender display subject to court and supervision source data. Asking the office that created the disputed item makes a correction request clearer and avoids treating one agency’s photo as another agency’s record. It also preserves the distinction between intake evidence, a later custody change, and the final court disposition.
